Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) will develop a program and produce resources to help families identify and engage in meaningful home-based spiritual formation practices with children that are resonant with everyday life. Using Deuteronomy 11 as a guide, IWU will create cohorts of families from diverse backgrounds to help develop resources to assist families in weaving spiritual practices into their household’s daily activities. These practices will take place when: 1) at home, 2) on the road, 3) going to bed, and 4) getting up. Particular focus will also be given to developing resources and practices that orient children towards Biblical neighboring, with a specific focus to loving others from diverse ethnic backgrounds. In the program’s second phase, IWU will identify congregations that will host the workshops for parents and children based on the resources developed by the cohorts of families. Finally, IWU will develop a communication and marking strategy to share the resources with broader networks of parents, churches, and religious organizations.
