Spirituality of Parenting Initiative

The university’s Center for Religion and Spirituality and its Center for Ignatian Spirituality will work collaboratively to implement the Spirituality of Parenting Initiative. The initiative will draw on the Catholic church’s spiritual traditions and connect parents and caregivers with insights from the latest research on child development, faith formation and neuroscience to develop and test home-based practices for nurturing the religious lives of children. Guided by spiritual directors, participating parents will meet with other parents and engage in spiritual practices, readings about faith formation of children, personal reflection and small group sharing exercises. Initiative activities will be offered in Spanish to support the Latino Catholic community in Southern California and later translated into English to be shared with schools in the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities to support parents and caregivers in other communities.
