The Children’s Revival of Participation at Sunday Mass will help Catholic parishes incorporate children’s leadership and children’s ways of worship into their regular Sunday Masses. Sunday Mass is the central event of every parish’s liturgical and communal life, and it should be the source and summit of all activities that aim to nurture the faith of children. Saint Meinrad will partner with up to 15 parishes to increase the participation of children in five areas of the Mass: 1) preparing the environment for worship, 2) singing and moving, 3) proclaiming the Word and hearing it explained, 4) leading and listening to spoken prayers, and 5) going forth from worship to witness. Each parish will convene a Children’s Participation Team to plan efforts tailored to the needs and gifts of the children in their community. Saint Meinrad will place resources and expertise at the disposal of partner parishes by creating an online handbook, mentoring parish leaders, gathering parish representatives annually for collaboration, and administering block grants to enable initiatives planned by the Children’s Participation Teams.
