Teaching Like Jesus Ministries (TLJM) will identify, assess, and design ways for African American churches to be intentional about intergenerational prayer and corporate worship activities for children, particularly those in foster care. The mission of TLJM is to equip leaders in the local church across denominations by providing seminars and conferences in cities throughout the United States. In the planning period, TLJM piloted focus groups of Church Of God In Christ (COGIC) pastors, worship leaders, parents, and youth to explore barriers to intergenerational worship practices. Findings indicate that although there is awareness of the urgency for intergenerational worship, tradition and implicit bias are primary barriers to change. In partnership with Dr. Stan Long and the Urban Outreach Foundation (UOF), TLJM and UOF will explore creative ways to engage children in worship with cohorts in Southern and Northern California and design digital methods to provide curriculum and training resources for pastors and churches.
